  Designation of Autonomous Driving Test Zones

  On November 30, 2023, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport officially designated a 9.7 km section of the Bomun Tourist District in Gyeongju as an “Autonomous Driving Test Zone.”
  Based on this, Gyeongju City began upgrading autonomous vehicle infrastructure and systems.

  Pilot operation of Type B autonomous shuttle bus

  - From December 10, 2023, to April 10, 2024, a Type B autonomous shuttle bus (with a driverless design) operated in a pilot program, circulating around Bomun Lake for approximately four months.
  - The route covered 9.4 kilometers, passing through major tourist attractions such as Gyeongju World, Donggungwon, and Lahan Select. The shuttle operated six times a day free of charge, with boarding available both on-site and through QR code reservations.

  Pilot operation for the introduction and expansion plan of Type A autonomous vehicles
  (with a driver's seat).

  Gyeongju City officially announced plans to introduce Type A shuttle buses and expand the fleet to three vehicles.

  Full-scale operation ahead of the APEC Summit, securing government subsidies,
  and providing free pilot operation services

  - In preparation for the 2025 APEC Summit, Gyeongju City has launched full-scale operation of autonomous shuttle buses.
  - Gyeongju City secured a budget by combining 600 million won in government subsidies with additional city funds, and expanded the fleet to three vehicles. A new route covering a 12.85 km section was introduced. Especially during the APEC period, a dedicated circular route connecting the conference venue and major hotels was operated.

  When autonomous shuttle bus operations resume

  - Autonomous shuttle bus service around Bomun Lake will resume from June 25, 2026, to February 20, 2027, operating along a circular route that includes HICO, Donggungwon, Lawon, and Gyeongju World.
  - The service will run seven times daily from Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays) and will be available free of charge to both residents and visitors. By offering an opportunity to experience next-generation transportation, the program aims to enhance public acceptance of autonomous vehicle technology.
